OBEDIENCE TRAINING

Training classes are designed to teach you how to train your dog — both you and your dog will be our students.  Oak Spring Kennels’ training philosophy consists of demonstration, love and praise.  We teach you to communicate with your dog using your normal speaking voice, a leash and collar, and lots of praise.  Get to know and understand your pet and realize the keys to leading a happy life together!

“STOP THAT DOG!”

ő Do you find yourself, or even worse, someone else uttering these words when you’re outside with your pet?

ő Does your dog turn and run when you call it or listens only to certain members of your household?

This can be one of the most frustrating traits when it comes to owning a dog.  We believe that all dogs need some level of obedience training.  Whether you choose to be competitive with your dog training or just want a well-behaved, well-mannered pet, Oak Spring Kennel is your answer!

Basic Obedience
The Basic Obedience Class is designed to teach you how to teach your dog to become a good canine citizen.  Basic obedience commands include heel, sit, sit-stay, down, down-stay, and come.  Behavior problems such as aggressiveness and chewing are addressed.
In addition to obedience training, we will spend one class talking about grooming and nutrition.

Intermediate Obedience
The Intermediate Obedience Class is designed for the more mature dog who has had basic obedience training.  These classes will help you to better understand canine behavior and develop a good relationship between you and your dog.
This class will review basic obedience techniques while introducing new exercises such as dumbbell retrieval, light obstacle work, and an introduction to off-leash training.

Competition Obedience
Professional instruction in Schutzhund, French Ring Sport, and AKC Obedience is available for those seeking the challenge of competitive dog sports.  Skill sets include tracking, obstacle work, agility, and protection training.

Tracking
The Tracking Class format taught uses the Schutzhund style.  So whether you‘re competing for AKC or Schutzhund, you’ll be prepared for every level of competition.  Class is outdoors and taught year round.

Private Lessons
Private lessons for any of the prior listed classes as well as for correction of behavioral problems including aggressiveness, soiling, jumping on people and furniture, and other problems can be arranged at our training facility or in your home.
